Privacy notice
Last updated 13 August 2026
RidgeQuill is an independent commercial-opportunity research service operated by Craig Baines. This notice explains how RidgeQuill uses business contact information when researching and communicating relevant commercial opportunities.
Information RidgeQuill may use
RidgeQuill may store a business name, website, business sector, publicly available contact names and roles, business email addresses, the commercial opportunity and supporting public evidence, and correspondence with RidgeQuill.
Where information comes from
Information is obtained from public business websites, official or public notices and records, other public sources used to research a specific commercial opportunity, and correspondence sent to RidgeQuill.
Why RidgeQuill uses it
RidgeQuill uses this information to research genuine commercial opportunities, identify a business that appears well placed to act, make relevant business-to-business contact where permitted, manage replies and outcomes, avoid duplicate or inappropriate contact, and maintain suppression records where someone asks not to receive future outreach.
RidgeQuill uses automated and AI-assisted tools to support opportunity research, business matching and the processing of business communications.
Where UK GDPR applies, RidgeQuill generally relies on legitimate interests for proportionate business-to-business research, record keeping and relevant commercial contact, subject to the rights and interests of the people concerned. A request to stop direct marketing is honoured.
Opting out
Cold RidgeQuill emails include a personalised opt-out link. Using that link always suppresses the exact email address the message was sent to and stops further chasing of that opportunity. Where RidgeQuill has recorded the recipient as an Executive contact with organisation-wide authority, using the link also suppresses the organisation. An explicit request not to contact the organisation also suppresses the organisation.
Website analytics
RidgeQuill records simple first-party website statistics so Craig can understand whether the site is being visited and whether visits came from RidgeQuill emails. The statistics include browsing visits, daily unique visitors, the most recent page viewed during a live visit, approximate visit duration, referral type and coarse country or location information where available. A visit may continue while the website remains open in a background tab. A random first-party anonymous browser identifier is used to distinguish daily unique visitors and resets each day. RidgeQuill does not store the visitor's raw IP address in its analytics tables, does not put a recipient identifier in email website links, and does not use the analytics to identify a named email recipient.
Service providers
RidgeQuill uses trusted service providers for hosting, email delivery and technology services used to research and operate the service. Information is shared only where necessary for those functions and is not sold to advertisers.
Retention
RidgeQuill keeps information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for opportunity history, correspondence, audit, suppression and legitimate business records. Suppression information may be retained so that an opt-out is not accidentally ignored later.
Your choices and rights
You can object to direct marketing at any time. Where data-protection law applies, you may also have rights to ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you believe your data-protection rights have been infringed.
